The area around Crested Butte contains five separate wastewater treatment plants. Gunnison County provided funds to prepare a 201 Plan to determine the feasibility of consolidating wastewater treatment facilities.

WestWater Engineering, in a joint venture with RTW of Denver undertook a 201 evaluation to determine the feasibility of accomplishing this goal. The report required numerous meetings with local entities and development of various scenarios for wastewater treatment systems.
